A man was shot and killed in a park in Compton and Los Angeles Sheriff‘s homicide detectives were at the scene Saturday morning investigating the killing.

The attack in the 1500 block of East Rosecrans Avenue was reported at 9:50 p.m. Friday, according to Deputy Trina Schrader said.

Compton deputies were flagged down by someone who told there was a man who was shot in the park, Schrader said. Deputies located the man who was laying in the grass.

The victim was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, sheriff’s homicide Lt. Steve Jauch said. His name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.

A motive for the attack was unknown, according to Jauch.

No suspect information was available.
