Authorities Friday were working to determine how a body wrapped in plastic ended up in an open field near a Burbank lumber yard, and how the man died.

Someone reported seeing the body behind Stock Lumber at 640 N. Victory Blvd. about 12:35 p.m. Thursday, said Burbank Police Sgt. Claudio Losacco. Officers responded and found the corpse; only the feet were exposed, he said.

The body was that of a man in his 30s, whose name was not immediately available, according to the coroner’s office. An autopsy was pending to determine the cause of death.

“The investigation is in the early stages,” Losacco said. “The mode and manner of death is not known at this time.”

Anyone with information was asked to call Burbank homicide detectives at (818) 238-3210 or Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477. All tips can be submitted anonymously.
