A 26-year-old motorist from Long Beach was killed Saturday morning at the end of a car chase that began in Claremont and ended in Ontario, where the victim tried to escape by jumping from an overpass into oncoming traffic.
At 12:48 a.m., a California Highway Patrol officer tried to pull over Althgafi Hamad Atiat Allah A for an “enforcement stop.” Allah A was driving a 2008 Honda Civic on the eastbound San Bernardino (10) Freeway at Indian Hill Boulevard, the CHP reported.
A pursuit began eastbound with speeds reaching more than 120 mph. As the Honda took the eastbound freeway to the northbound Ontario (15) Freeway in Ontario, it crashed into a guardrail and the motorist got of his car and ran toward the guardrail.
He jumped from the overpass onto the westbound San Bernardino (10) Freeway, where he was struck twice by passing motorists.
The CHP’s Baldwin Park office asked anyone who witnessed the pursuit or crash to call them at (626) 338-1164.
