A man was gunned down Monday at a homeless encampment beneath a freeway overpass in South Los Angeles, and his killer was at large.

The man, believed to be in his 40s, died at the scene of the shooting, which occurred about 7:20 a.m. on Broadway beneath the Glenn Anderson (105) Freeway, said Los Angeles police Officer Liliana Preciado.

Authorities withheld his name pending family notification. There were no other details about the murder immediately available.
