A wrong-way motorist was killed Wednesday when his car slammed head-on into an oncoming truck hauling asphalt in Glendora, police said.
The man was driving northbound in the southbound lanes of Sunflower Avenue when his Acura Integra collided with the truck just south of Juanita Avenue about 8:20 a.m., according to Glendora police Lt. Matt Williams.
The Acura driver, who was in his 20s, had to be extricated from the car and was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was withheld pending notification of his family.
The driver of the truck, which ended up on its side and spilled asphalt into northbound lanes on Sunflower, was uninjured and cooperated with investigators, according to the lieutenant.
Intoxication was not suspected on either driver’s part, Williams said.
The intersection and surrounding streets were closed as police investigated the crash and crews cleaned up the asphalt and removed the wreckage. The scene was expected to be clear by early evening, Williams said.
