A domestic violence suspect ran from officers in South Gate Thursday, prompting a perimeter search and the lockdown of several nearby schools.
The search began about 12:30 p.m. in the 2900 block of Nebraska Avenue, but the unnamed suspect was not found, according to South Gate Police.
Stanford Avenue Elementary, Montara Avenue Elementary, Southeast Middle and South East High schools were placed on lockdown as a precaution and the Los Angeles School Police Department assisted with the release of students, keeping them from entering the search area, authorities said.
There was no immediate threat to any of the campuses, police said.
The domestic violence allegedly committed by the suspect, who is no longer believed to be in the area, occurred before today, a South Gate police watch commander said.
