A crash between a big rig and another vehicle on the Santa Ana (5) Freeway in Norwalk left the big rig truck on fire, and northbound lanes were shut down until Saturday afternoon according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred on the northbound 5 Freeway near Rosecrans Avenue at about 3 a.m., according to CHP Officer Tony Polizzi.
The collision shut down all northbound lanes at the accident scene and traffic was taken off the freeway at Carmenita Avenue, according to Polizzi.
The big rig also spilled at least part of its load onto the freeway, he said.
Lanes 1 and 2 were reopened at about 10:50 a.m. and the full freeway was reopened at about 2 p.m., said CHP Officer Michele Bond.
The CHP reported the big rig driver was taken to a hospital, but Los Angeles County Fire Department Dispatch Supervisor Ed Pickett said two people with minor injuries refused to be taken to hospitals for treatment.
