A fire that charred more than 150 acres of brush in canyons and hills above Lake View Terrace was 35 percent contained Tuesday morning, fire officials said.

The blaze was reported about 2:20 p.m. Monday near the 11300 block of Wheatland Avenue at the edge of the Angeles National Forest. It quickly spread from less than 10 to more than 100 acres, the Los Angeles Fire Department reported.

Around 100 LAFD firefighters along with water-dropping helicopters and spotter planes battled the blaze, which had scorched about 120 acres by about 4:15 p.m., officials said. By about 7:20 p.m. Monday, 184 acres had burned and the fire was 35 percent contained, officials said.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department sent camp crews and a water- dropping helicopter to help fight the flames. The U.S. Forest Service also had personnel assisting in the fight and took over command Monday night as the bulk of the fire moved into the Angeles National Forest, officials said.

No injuries were reported and although no structures were threatened, firefighters were positioned “as a precaution in the Little Tujunga Canyon Road to Big Tujunga Canyon Road areas,” according to LAFD’s Erik Scott, who said there are power lines in the burn area.

Foothill Boulevard was closed between Christy Avenue to the west and Esko Avenue to the east, Scott said.

Drizzle could help firefighters’ efforts if it materializes this morning, Scott said, adding that full containment was anticipated by Tuesday night.
