A man pleaded not guilty Thursday to stabbing his 60- year-old father in the head during an argument at their Azusa home.

Marlon Juares, 36,  is charged with one count each of attempted murder and criminal threats in connection with the alleged attack Tuesday.

The criminal complaint includes the allegations that Juares personally used a knife during the commission of the crime and that he inflicted great bodily injury on the victim.

Juares and his father reportedly got into an argument, in which the younger man allegedly grabbed a knife and stabbed his father in the head, according to prosecutors.

A family member was able to intervene and stop the attack, prosecutors said.

Responding police officers found the injured man inside the home and Juares there still holding the knife, according to police.

The father was taken to a hospital to be treated for non-life- threatening wounds, according to police.

Juares — who remains jailed — is due back June 15 in a West Covina courtroom.

If convicted as charged, he could face a maximum possible sentence of life in prison, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
