Authorities Monday were trying to figure out why two men were shot – and not talking with police about it – in a confrontation at a gravesite at a Santa Ana cemetery.
Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bretagno said the shooting victims were “drinking beer and chilling” midday Sunday at a gravesite in the cemetery, 1702 Fairhaven Ave.
A grey SUV pulled up, a verbal fight escalated into a melee and then gunshots were fired, Bertagno said.
One man was shot in his upper torso, and another in his lower torso. But both had stable life signs and were not expected to die, he said.
“They are not cooperative with us, so we don’t have much to go on,” Bertagno said.
The cemetery was reopened to those paying respects on this Memorial Day weekend by midafternoon, he said.
