A woman was perched above the Harbor (110) Freeway in downtown Los Angeles Wednesday night, causing a traffic nightmare as firefighters set up air cushions to try to avert her death or injury.

Firefighters were called just before 7 p.m. to assist at the scene near the Sixth Street overpass, according to Erik Scott of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Reports from the scene showed traffic backed up for miles in both directions.
