Authorities Tuesday were seeking three of four suspected gang members who fled from the scene of a fatal shooting in the unincorporated South San Gabriel area where a 38-year-old man was shot to death in front of a motel.

One suspect was arrested near the scene of the shooting, which took place just before midnight Thursday in the 1600 block of Del Mar Avenue, according to Los Angeles County sheriff’s Deputy Grace Medrano.

The victim, identified by the coroner’s office as John Pollerana, died at a hospital.

Deputies responded to a report of shots fired with a victim struck and found Pollerana suffering from a gunshot wound to his body, Medrano said.

“During the investigation, detectives learned that the shooting originated from an altercation between members of two different gangs,” she said.

Pollerana was one of three male victims, but the other two were uninjured, Medrano said.

Investigators identified four male suspects, she said.

“One suspect was seen driving away from the location in a white sedan,” Medrano said.

“The three additional suspects fled on foot, and one suspect was apprehended a few blocks away from the location. He was taken to a local hospital to be treated for injuries he sustained unrelated to the shooting.”

No other information was available as the investigation remains active, Medrano said.

The killing is being investigated by the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau and anyone with information about the case was urged to call detectives at (323) 890-5500. Anonymous tips can be provided through Crime Stoppers by calling (800) 222-TIPS.
