
A brush fire broke out Thursday afternoon in the Castaic area, blackening upwards of 10 acres.
The fire was reported about noon near the 29300 block of The Old Road, according to the county fire department.
Ground crews, assisted by helicopter crews, stopped the fire’s forward progress about 12:30 p.m. and air crews were released soon after.
The fire scorched 8 1/2 acres and was 50 percent contained as of 2:45 p.m., according to the fire department.
