It took Pasadena firefighters a little more than an hour to identify and remove three suspicious containers, authorities said.
The hazardous materials incident was reported at around 12:30 p.m. Saturday in the area of Foothill and Rosemead boulevards, according to the Pasadena Fire Department, which warned the public to avoid the area.
The chemical involved turned out to be pool cleaning acid, the fire department said at around 1:45 p.m.
Roadways in the area were reopened after the chemicals were removed.
