The suspected drunken father of a 2-year-old girl will face justice in a Los Angeles courtroom this summer for allegedly endangering his daughter’s life by trapping her in a locked car with the windows rolled up as the sun beat down.

The 48-year-old man faces potential child endangerment and intoxication charges at a September 6 court date.

The incident occurred June 8 when officers from the El Segundo Police Department responded to a call in the 600 block of Center Street, police Lt. Scott Doukakis told the Daily Breeze.

A woman nearby contacted 911 after letting the toddler out of the vehicle, according to the newspaper. When police arrived, they had paramedics examine the toddler, who was sweating.

“She was fine, but if she would have been in the car longer, there could have been problems,” Doukakis told the newspaper.

Police found a six-pack of cold beer with one bottle missing, Doukakis said.

The father, Los Angeles resident Dennyal Sachen, came back to his vehicle about 15 minutes later after picking up another daughter, 10, from school.

Sachen sported “a red, flushed face, bloodshot eyes and smelled of alcohol” when he arrived, police said in a Facebook post.

Sachen then failed a sobriety test, showing a blood-alcohol level triple the legal limit, authorities said. He was arrested and subsequently released after posting bond of $100,000, officials said.

His arraignment is scheduled for Sept. 6 at the Airport Courthouse in Los Angeles.
