Frank Chavez, 28, of Los Angeles, was wanted by police in connection with two recent domestic violence cases. He was arrested on June 3 for an incident that took place in Montebello, for which he posted bond and was released. And on June 8, Chavez returned to the same victim’s residence to retrieve some personal items, but allegedly became angry, made threats, brandished a gun and shot the victim’s vehicle several times before fleeing the scene, according to police officers.

Following the shooting, an arrest warrant was issued. Detectives Friday morning were able to locate the suspect and get a search warrant for a residence in the 100 block of Carmelita Street in East Los Angeles, where Chavez was found at about 7 a.m., Montebello officers said.

Before surrendering, Chavez was allegedly armed and barricaded himself in a building behind the residence for several hours of negotiations with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Special Enforcement Bureau and the Crisis Negotiation Team.

Traffic was routed away from the area throughout the negotiations, and the public was advised to stay away.

Late Friday morning, the suspect was apprehended and taken to the Montebello Police Department jail for booking and housing. He will remain held without bail pending a court appearance.
