A 48-year-old man who beat his 74-year-old father to death during a fight at their home in Canyon Country was sentenced Monday — one day after Father’s Day — to 11 years in prison.
Sean Matthias Miller pleaded no contest May 16 to voluntary manslaughter for the June 15, 2015 death of his father, Jack Miller, who was found by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies responding to calls of a family dispute.
The two had gotten into a physical fight, during which the defendant picked up a bat, hit his father and then kicked him, according to Deputy District Attorney Carmelia Mejia.
The father died of suffocation and blunt head trauma, according to coroner’s records.
Miller was arrested early the next morning by sheriff’s deputies.
