A Northern California man was arrested after deputies found about $14,000 worth of marijuana in the car he was driving, authorities said Wednesday.

Deputies stopped a vehicle that tried to illegally enter the Castaic Lake Campground around 11 p.m. Tuesday, said Deputy Johnie K. Jones of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department‘s Parks Bureau.

While speaking with the driver, deputies smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and, upon searching it, found seven large bags with about seven pounds of marijuana, Jones said.

The driver, 30-year-old Kane Cassidy of Cohasset in Butte County, was booked on suspicion of possession of marijuana for sale and transport of marijuana, Jones said.

Cassidy was being held at the sheriff’s Santa Clarita Station in lieu of $25,000 bail.
