A Los Angeles man was sentenced Friday to six years in prison for for driving drunk and causing a crash that killed a bicyclist in the Westlake area of Los Angeles in April.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Fred Wapner immediately imposed the term after Cruz Tzoc, 23, pleaded no contest to one count of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.

Tzoc sideswiped a car while driving about 60 mph, hit a parked car and went through an intersection backward when he struck Tomas Brewer and dragged him about 25 feet on April 23. Tzoc’s truck then crashed into a tree.

Tzoc was found to be under the influence of alcohol at a level more than twice the legal limit, according to police.
