Authorities in Marina Del Rey Thursday rescued a woman whose sedan careened through a railing and into the water.

Firefighters responded to the 5500 block of South Pacific near Via Marina at 12:13 a.m., according to Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Lifeguards assisted firefighters in extracting the woman, who was believed to be the lone occupant of the vehicle, Humphrey said.

Workers were continuing efforts to remove the vehicle from the water and a tow truck had been summoned to the scene, Sgt. Clifton Frazier of the Los Angeles Police Department’s West Traffic Division said.

The driver was checked at an ambulance, Humphrey said. The woman was subsequently taken to the LAPD’s Pacific Station to speak with authorities, Frazier said.
