A man in Panorama City was killed Saturday by an alleged hit-and-run motorist, who was later arrested after a vehicle pursuit.
The death occurred at 12:36 a.m. in the area of Parthenia Street and Sepulveda Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Police Department’s Media Relations section. The pedestrian died at the scene, officers said.
The motorist, identified as 54-year-old Mark Christian Johnson, was driving a late-model Toyota Prius and led police on a vehicle chase right after striking the pedestrian, who allegedly was crossing against a red light.
The pursuit ended in Pacific Palisades near Pacific Coast Highway, where spike strips were laid down, police said.
After Johnson drove over the strip, his Prius collided with a steel parking pillar in a private parking lot adjacent to PCH and Porto Marina Way, police said.
Johnson was arrested for felony evading, but it’s likely more charges will be filed, according to Officer Mike Lopez.
He was being held in lieu of $75,000 bail.
The victim’s identity was being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
