Shots fired from a vehicle Thursday morning left a 25- year-old man dead and two other people wounded at a gas station in Willowbrook, in what detectives believe was a gang-related attack.

One of the wounded victims was a man who was not the intended target of the shooting, which occurred about 12:50 a.m. at a 76 station in the 1300 block of East Imperial Highway, according to Deputy Grace Medrano of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

Deputies from the sheriff’s Century Station responded to the location to investigate a report of a gunshot victim and found the 53-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds to his upper body. He was taken to a hospital, where his condition was stable, Medrano said.

Detectives subsequently learned that the victim who died and a 22-year- old woman were in the gas station parking lot in a white sedan when another vehicle pulled alongside and someone inside opened fire with a high-caliber firearm, Medrano said.

“Although both victims were struck by gunfire, the female managed to drive to the Los Angeles Police Department’s Southeast Station (at 145 W. 108th St.), where the male victim was pronounced dead,” according to Medrano.

The woman was taken to a hospital, where she was in stable condition, Medrano said.

No description of the suspect vehicle or anyone inside was available.

The shooting of the man and woman in the car “appears to be gang- related,” but the man who survived was a bystander and not the shooter’s intended target, Medrano said.

Anyone with information about the shooting was urged to contact the sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
