Compton park fight is fatal: Brawlers were women in 60s

A fight between two women in their 60s in Compton’s Tragniew Park ended with one of them dead and the other jailed on suspicion of murder, authorities said Friday.

Deputies from the sheriff’s Compton Station sent about 6:50 p.m. Thursday to the 2000 block of West Alondra Boulevard found the 63-year-old victim on the ground and unresponsive, sheriff’s Deputy Guillermina Saldana said.

“Detectives discovered that a group of women were at a local park when a 67-year-old woman became annoyed with another woman arguing that she was too loud,” the deputy said. “The argument quickly became physical with both punching each other and one being hit with a cane.”

“Both women ended up on the ground where the altercation continued. The 67-year-old suspect got up and walked away while the other complained she could not breathe,” according to Saldana.

The victim was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead, Saldana said.

Her name was withheld pending family notifications.

The other woman, whose name was not released, was arrested, booked on suspicion of murder and was being held at the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood in lieu of $1 million bail, Saldana said.
