An Azusa woman was sentenced Monday to almost 3 1/2 years behind bars for embezzling more than $270,000 from a credit union for city employees.

Jolina Monique Sanchez, a former employee of the Azusa City Employees Federal Credit Union, was also ordered to pay restitution of about $600,000 and serve five years of supervised release after she completes her 41-month federal prison term, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Sanchez, 36, previously pleaded guilty in Los Angeles to federal counts of bank fraud and theft by a credit union employee.

Sanchez made unauthorized withdrawals ranging from $2,300 to $46,400 from March 2012 through May of 2013. The theft was not discovered until the end of 2013 during an audit.

The Azusa credit union is now part of Foothill Credit Union.
