Authorities Wednesday identified a man who was fatally shot in Sylmar in an attack that left another man seriously wounded.

Officers were sent about 3:20 a.m. Monday to the 14700 block of Oro Grande Street to investigate a shots-fired call, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

When they arrived, they found a car that had been involved in a collision in the 12400 block of Ralston Avenue.

The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle — identified by the coroner’s office as John Rickman, 34, of Sylmar  —  was found unconscious in the driver’s seat, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, police said.

A second man, also suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, was found a couple of blocks away in the 12600 block of Bradley Avenue, according to the LAPD.

Rickman was pronounced dead at the scene and the other man was taken to a hospital, where he was listed in serious but stable condition.

“There is no suspect description and no motive at this time,” according to an LAPD statement.

Anyone with information about the shooting was urged to call Detective Dave Peteque of Valley Bureau Homicide at (818) 374-1934. After-hours calls should be directed to (877) LAPD-24-7.
