A 58-year-old motorcyclist from Marina Del Rey was killed when a car pulled into an intersection on a mountain road above Malibu, authorities said Friday.

The wreck was reported at about 4:30 p.m. Saturday the intersection of Latigo Canyon Road and Ocean View Drive, about three miles into the mountains above Pacific Coast Highway.

Florentino Couce, 58, of Marina Del Rey, was riding a 2015 Ducati northbound on Latigo Canyon Drive approaching the intersection, the California Highway Patrol reported. A gray 2016 Mazda that had been westbound on Ocean View Drive was stopped at the intersection.

“The driver of the car began to turn left onto southbound Latigo Canyon Drive. Before the car could complete its turn, the motorcycle struck the left side of the car and the rider was ejected onto the road,” according to the CHP.

Paramedics rushed Couce to UCLA Medical Center, Santa Monica, where he died from his injuries.

The driver of the Mazda, a 19 year-old Malibu woman, was not injured.

The estimated speed of the motorcycle was not given, but the car driver was not cited or arrested.
