Two dogs died, but no people were injured in a fire that ripped through a garage and home in Van Nuys.

The fire was reported at 5:51 p.m. Thursday at 7047 Bevis Ave., according to Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Sixty-six firefighters responded to the one-story home and knocked down the flames in 22 minutes, Humphrey said.

The fire was mostly confined to the attached garage and attic of the one-story home, Humphrey said.

The fire did some damage elsewhere in the home, which was built in 1958, and a vehicle parked in the driveway was destroyed, Humphrey said.

A home to the south of the residence sustained moderate damage, Humphrey said.

“Two dogs sadly died within the smoke-charged home,” Humphrey said, adding that a third, non-injured dog was cordoned in the yard, awaiting Department of Animal Services personnel.
