What a mess!
LAX will be jammed this Labor Day holiday weekend with massive, record numbers of travelers, far more than last year.
And that means potential delays, irritation, confusion and unhappiness for the “fun” holiday.
If you’re planning on traveling this weekend, you better get to LAX early. Officials say you should be at the airport at least two hours in advance of your domestic flights and three hours before intenerational travel.
But it’s probably a good idea to get there even sooner than those recommendation, as more than 800,000 passengers are expected to pass through the airport this Labor Day weekend, officials said Thursday.
The projection of 817,000 passengers scheduled to come through LAX from Friday through Monday is 7.2 percent more than the 762,000 people that passed through the airport during last year’s holiday weekend.
Friday is projected to be the busiest day, with about 223,000 travelers, while Monday will bring 219,000 passengers to LAX.
Airport officials warned travelers to account for slower-than-usual traffic in the Central Terminal Area when planning their trip to LAX. They also advised motorists to check their Waze smartphone navigation app, which contains road closure and traffic condition information provided by the airport.
