People aren’t the only ones who need a little cooling off in this summer heat. A mother bear and her two cubs were spotted swimming in a Pasadena neighborhood pool Thursday afternoon and foraging for food in a trash container.
Deputies and wildlife personnel were monitoring their activity, authorities said.
The mother bear and two cubs were reported in the area of Sierra Madre Villa Avenue and Fairpoint Street, according to a deputy at the sheriff’s Altadena Station.
A dog was seen on a televised news program chasing the bears from a yard.
Andrew Hughan, of the state Department of Fish and Wildlife, told the Los Angeles Times that the mother bear appeared to weigh about 300 pounds and her cubs “look to be pretty darn healthy too.”
Fish and Wildlife personnel were sent to the scene to monitor the activity of the animals, and were hoping that they will go back into the wild after dark, Hughan said.
