A teenage boy fatally stabbed near a Santa Ana homeless encampment on Tuesday was a 17-year-old documented gang member whose attackers remain at large, police said Wednesday.

Just before he was stabbed in the upper body, Jesus Daniel Flores got into a brawl with two men at the riverbed at First Street west of Fairview Street, according to Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna.

Two of the Tustin teen’s friends carried him from under a bridge at the First Street overpass to First Street and called authorities at 12:51 p.m., Bertagna said.

Flores was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:32 p.m., Bertagna said.

Anyone with information about the stabbing was asked to call police at (714) 245-8390. Anonymous tips may be made through Orange County Crime Stoppers at (855) TIP-OCCS.
