An elementary school was placed on lockdown Wednesday afternoon while officers and sheriff’s deputies set up a perimeter to look for suspects who had fled from a car chase.
A trio of burglary suspects led Alhambra police on a chase to East Los Angeles, where one person was taken into custody and two others eluded authorities after scattering into a residential area.
The southbound Long Beach (710) Freeway car chase resulted in a vehicle crash in the area of the freeway and Third Street, according to Alhambra police Sgt. Jerry Johnson.
A female occupant of the vehicle was taken into custody, and two males got out and ran into the neighborhood, Johnson said.
Humphreys Avenue Elementary School was placed on lockdown as a precaution while the perimeter was searched.
By mid-afternoon, the search for the two outstanding suspects was called off, and the lockdown at Humphreys was lifted, although Los Angeles School Police remained on the campus. Alhambra police said officers had good descriptions of the remaining suspects thanks to surveillance video from the home that was burglarized.
