A fast-moving brush fire charred nearly two acres of hillside grass in Sunland, east of Oro Vista Park, Thursday night before firefighters got a handle on the flames.
The fire ignited heavy brush and began moving uphill near 11120 Oro Vista Ave. about 6:20 p.m., according to Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The department dispatched 119 firefighters and three water-dropping helicopters to the site, Humphrey said. The Los Angeles County Fire Department also sent firefighters to the scene, but Humphrey said he didn’t have an exact count of the county resources.
No injuries were reported and no structures were threatened in the brushfire.
Firefighters declared a knockdown after 54 minutes, Humphrey said. The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
City firefighters will remain on scene through the night to handle any hotspots that might flare up, Humphrey said.
