Covina police Capt. John Curley has been named the city’s police chief, it was announced Thursday.
Curley will replace Kim Raney, who is retiring on Oct. 13 after serving as the city’s police chief for 16 years. Curley, a 23-year veteran of the police department, will assume the duties of chief on Oct. 14.
“I’m very confident in Capt. Curley’s ability to lead the organization into the future,” said Don Penman, Covina’s interim city manager. “Capt. Curley was selected from a list of exceptionally qualified applicants from both within the Covina Police Department and from other law enforcement agencies throughout the state.”
Curley holds a bachelor’s degree in human resource management from Cal Poly Pomona, and a master’s degree in leadership and management from the University of La Verne.
“Capt. Curley’s law enforcement experience, formal education, as well as his understanding of the needs of both the community and the organization, makes him the right choice for Covina,” Penman said.
