Four Bakersfield men were behind bars Thursday on suspicion of stealing cell phones and smart tablets from an electronics store in Newport Beach, police said.
An employee of the store in the 2300 block of East Coast Highway called police about 8 p.m. Wednesday and said the robbery occurred a few minutes before closing time, according to Jennifer Manzella of the Newport Beach Police Department.
The employee said the bandits fled, but he took a picture of one of the suspects and also managed to snap a photo of the getaway car, Manzella said.
Officers reasoned the suspects would make their escape on the Corona Del Mar (73) Freeway, so set up at Jamboree and the highway and spotted the getaway car, Manzella said.
Police followed the white Toyota Camry onto the San Diego (405) Freeway and stopped the car near Valley View Street in Westminster, Manzella said. The four were arrested without incident and police recovered the stolen goods, which were valued at about $7,200.
Christopher Lee Arnold, 24, Calvin Demetrius Makes, 26, Kendall Lasheed McDaniel, 24, and Richard Hayes Nichols III, 26, were booked on suspicion of commercial burglary.
