A Hacienda Heights man was sentenced Friday to four years in state prison for a hit-and-run crash that killed a pedestrian who was crossing a street in Whittier in March.

Randy Marquez, 30, pleaded no contest Aug. 19 to a felony count of hit-and-run driving resulting in death or serious injury.

The charge stemmed from the death of Victor Manuel Gallegos, 58, of Whittier, who was struck March 19 by a white, older-model Toyota pickup truck that was being driven north on Pickering Avenue approaching Hadley Street.

The truck — which had damage consistent with the crash — was found the next morning in Hacienda Heights, police said.

Marquez surrendered to Glendora police March 22, according to the Whittier Police Department.
