The sheriff’s department continued its investigation Monday into the shooting in Maywood of a woman who was wounded as she sat in a car with her boyfriend.
The woman was shot in the shoulder at 11:19 p.m. Sunday as she sat in the vehicle near 57th Street and Atlantic Boulevard, said Lt. Glenn Walsh of the sheriff’s East Los Angeles Station.
The woman’s boyfriend told deputies that he was in the 4400 block of 56th Street when a gunman approached on foot and fired upon the couple as he tried to drive away.
The woman was taken to St. Francis Medical Center in Lynwood, where her vital signs were stable, Walsh said. Her name was withheld.
At 11:27 the same night, a man matching the description of the suspect carjacked the driver of a Kia Sorrento at 5243 Cudahy Ave., the lieutenant said.
“We think the suspect was the same,” Walsh said. “It is reasonable to deduce he was trying to carjack the first car.”
