A 38-year-old Garden Grove woman was behind bars Wednesday on suspicion of attacking a female policewoman with the officer’s billy club.

Police were dispatched about 11 a.m. Tuesday to 12200 Oertly Drive, according to Garden Grove police Lt. Tom DaRe.

A woman who was described as “mentally unstable” and “violent” attacked one of the officers who responded to the call of a disturbance at a residence, DaRe said.

During the fight, the suspect wrestled the policewoman’s baton from her and slammed it over her head several times, but the officer’s motorcycle helmet protected her, DaRe said.

Other officers responding to the call helped take the suspect into custody, the lieutenant said. The officer was taken to an area hospital, where she was treated for minor injuries to her face and neck, DaRe said.

The suspect — Elizabeth A. Tran — was being held in lieu of $50,000 bail, he said.
