A search was underway Sunday for the hit-and-run driver whose pickup truck killed a 60-year-old man trying to cross a street in Van Nuys.

The victim’s body was found at 7:50 p.m. Saturday on the street in the 8000 block of North Sepulveda Boulevard in Van Nuys, Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department said.

“He was walking across mid-block when he was struck in the No. 3 lane by a white pickup truck, Los Angeles police Lt. W. Morey said. “The man was not in a crosswalk when he was hit. And we have no other information on the driver who fled the scene after the hit-and run.”

The victim died at the scene, according to police. His name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Anyone with information on this hit-and-run driver was asked to call the LAPD’s Valley Traffic Division at (818) 644-8000. Tipsters can also call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
