A 24-year-old Los Angeles ex-con will be in court Thursday following his arrest for allegedly exposing himself to a woman aboard a Metro Gold Line train and being a felon in possession of a Taser.
The woman victim recorded the alleged act on her cell phone and posted the video to Facebook.
Kerry Smith was arrested on Sept. 28 and was being held in lieu of $100,000 bail with his next court appearance scheduled for Thursday in Compton, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Video of what he is suspected of doing on the train on Sept. 25 was recorded by a witness who posted it on social media, the sheriff’s department reported.
“The victim, a female, was riding the train to downtown L.A. when she saw Smith performing the lewd act on himself, in plain view, while on the train,” according to a sheriff’s department statement. “The victim captured his behavior on her cell phone and posted it to her Facebook account.”
Following media reports, someone who saw the video contacted the sheriff’s Metro hotline and told authorities of seeing a man fitting the suspect’s description riding a Blue Line train, according to the sheriff’s department.
Deputies contacted Smith, who was on parole for an unspecified felony conviction, and found he was in possession of a Taser.
“Later Smith admitted to being the person in the video being shown in the media,” according to the sheriff’s department.
