It was like a scene from a hit-man movie, but it was all too real as a 29-year-old man was shot and killed as he stood with co-workers in a South Gate parking lot.
The shooting was reported in the 8600 block of Atlantic Avenue, between Firestone Boulevard and the border with Cudahy, Deputy Guillermina Saldana of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau said.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene early Friday, Saldana said.
He was shot by a male who opened fire with a rifle after getting out of a black car that entered the lot where the victim and his co-workers were gathered, the deputy said.
“The suspect got back into the car and drove away on Mason Street to Firestone Boulevard and out of view,” Saldana said.
Detailed descriptions of the suspect and vehicle were not available and the motive for the shooting was unclear, she said.
Detectives with the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau were assisting the South Gate Police Department in the investigation of the killing.
Anyone with information about the shooting was asked to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS (8477).
