Sheriff’s homicide detectives Saturday continued their investigation into the shooting death of a 25-year-old employee during an attempted robbery at a Jack in the Box restaurant in El Monte.
The shooting occurred at about 7:30 p.m. Friday in the 9200 block of Flair Drive, near the San Bernardino (10) Freeway, according to Deputy Ryan Rouzan of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
“An armed, masked male entered the business and immediately jumped over the counter where the victim was standing in an apparent armed robbery attempt,” Rouzan said.
“The suspect turned toward the victim and fired at least one shot, which struck the victim in the upper torso,” he said. “The suspect immediately jumped back over the counter and fled the location.”
The suspect was seen running north on Flair Drive, Rouzan said. “The suspect did not obtain any money or property from the business.”
The victim was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Rouzan said.
Sheriff’s homicide detectives asked anyone with any information regarding the attempted robbery to call them at (323) 890-5500.
