Police have arrested a 29-year-old North Hollywood man for allegedly stabbing one man to death and slashing another at a North Hollywood park, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Anthony James Medrano was booked for suspicion of murder and attempted murder and was held without bail, according to police and L.A. County jail information.
Medrano allegedly confronted Federico Vasquez Hernandez, 67, inside the Victory Vineland Recreation Center in North Hollywood at 11117 Victory Blvd. around 6:40 a.m. Saturday, according to police.
Hernandez was apparently walking through the park collecting bottles and cans when Medrano allegedly assaulted and then stabbed him multiple times, according to the LAPD. Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene by fire department paramedics.
Medrano then allegedly stabbed a 61-year-old man at the other side of the park multiple times, according to the LAPD. Paramedics treated that man at the park and then transported him to a hospital for treatment of his wounds.
Police found and arrested Medrano, who was still in the park, a short distance away from the second victim. There’s no word yet on the motive behind this bloody rampage.
