A 23-year-man was sentenced Monday to 30 years in prison for the gunning down his stepfather and assaulting two fellow inmates while awaiting trial for the killing.

Joel Torres pleaded guilty in August to one count each of voluntary manslaughter and mayhem and two counts of assault.

On March 24, 2013, Torres got into an argument with his stepfather, 37- year-old Rogelio Aguirre-Lopez, outside the defendant’s home. Torres shot Aguirre-Lopez, who died at the scene.

At the Men’s Central Jail, Torres attacked inmates on two separate occasions, in April 2014 and April 2016.
