A water main break Tuesday caused flooding and pavement damage while forcing the closure of a stretch of Melrose Avenue in the Larchmont area.
The break, in a 100-year-old, 10-inch main, was reported about 7:30 a.m. in the area of Melrose and Wilton Place, according to Kim Hughes of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.
The water was shut off about 9:30 a.m., according to Hughes, who said 28 service connections were affected.
Melrose Avenue was closed in both directions between Wilton and Gramercy Place, she said.
Crews were aiming to have the pipe repaired by about 9 p.m., Hughes said.
Mains of that size are typically buried deeper than lesser pipes, she said.
Once the DWP’s work is complete, public works crews will finish road repairs and the street will be reopened, Hughes said.
