Fire Sunday damaged a bedroom at a home in unincorporated Whittier, and two sheriff’s deputies deputies were taken to a hospital for minor smoke inhalation.

Fire dispatchers said the two deputies may have been trying to rescue some people from the home at 11253 S. Colima Road, according to a Los Angeles County Fire Department dispatcher.

Firefighters were dispatched at 12:12 p.m., and had the fire out at 12:25 p.m., the dispatcher said.

A sheriff’s office spokesperson said the deputies inhaled some smoke, and were being checked at a hospital only as a precaution.
