Three kids were hospitalized over the weekend after being hit by an SUV in Sun Valley as they ignored age-old parents’ advice to look both ways before crossing a street.

A green compact SUV with a damaged hood stopped at the scene. The driver was not arrested because the children ran in front of the vehicle while trying to get into a crosswalk, a police officer said.

The victims, all between 8 and 10 years old, were struck about 3:40 p.m. Friday in the 8500 block of North Sunland Boulevard, according to Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The children were taken to a hospital where one was treated for a broken leg, one was checked for pain in the neck and back and one was checked for elbow, arm and hip pain, according to an officer at the Los Angeles Police Department’s Valley Traffic Division.
