Police Sunday were trying to figure out what prompted a mourner at a wake to get into an argument and end up shooting five people at the previously peaceful gathering in Gramercy Park.

There was no word if the attacker had been captured.

The shooting was reported at 91st Street and Western Avenue, according to Sgt. Thomas Bojorquez of  the Los Angeles Police Department.

Some people were attending a wake for a person who died from natural causes, Bojorquez said. “A dispute broke out at the wake,” he said.

Someone involved in the dispute may have left and come back in a vehicle Saturday about 3:30 p.m. from which shots were fired, Bojorquez said.

There were no life-threatening wounds but five people were taken to hospitals for treatment, he said.
