Police arrested an apparently disturbed man Wednesday in Pomona who called 911, told them he had bombs in his house and was going to blow it up unless he could talk to President Barack Obama, according to authorities.

Officers were dispatched to 948 Ericksen Dr. at about 11:15 a.m. and found the caller barricaded in a back tool shed threatening to blow it up, according to Pomona police Sgt. Robert DeVee.

A Pomona police crisis negotiation team was called to the scene and began a dialogue with the man, DeVee said. The talking went on for about an hour. During that time the suspect broke out windows and poured gasoline over himself and onto the shed.

Officers then used a garden hose and finally a fire hose to spray the man with water to dilute the gas, DeVee said. The man allegedly then armed himself with a hammer and kept lunging at the officers trying to hit them. Police finally used a bean bag gun to disable him and take him into custody.

The man suffered some slight abrasions from the bean bag. No officers were hurt.

The man, whose name has not yet been released, was taken to Pomona Medical Center for treatment and a mental examination, DeVee said.
