A midnight walk turned tragic as a pedestrian in his 60s was hospitalized Friday in critical condition with injuries he suffered when he was hit by a vehicle while crossing a road in Azusa, police said.

The male driver of the sedan that struck the pedestrian remained at the scene and was cooperating with authorities, police said. There was no evidence of alcohol or drugs being factors in the incident.

There was also no word of lighting conditions in the area, nor what color clothes the person struck was wearing. It wasn’t clear if the man was in a crosswalk.

The victim was crossing East Arrow Highway in the 400 block Thursday a few minutes before midnight when he was struck, said Sgt. John Madaloni of the Azusa Police Department.

The injured pedestrian was rushed to a hospital where he was in critical condition, Madaloni said.
