Two mail trucks were stolen from the U.S. Postal Service facility in Acton, but were recovered a short time later after a law enforcement chase that ended in one of the trucks crashing.

The master key to the Acton community mailboxes was also stolen during the burglary, which occurred between 1 a.m. and 3:45 a.m. Monday at the post office at 3632 Smith Ave., according to Deputy Jodi Wolfe of the sheriff’s Palmdale Station.

One of the trucks was chased by deputies and crashed in the area of Shannondale Road and Sierra Highway, ABC7 reported.

Soon after the crash, the driver got into a dark Ford Mustang that was also chased by deputies before the pursuit was called off, according to the station, which reported that the second truck was found in the area of Escondido Canyon and Jones Canyon roads.

Acton is in the Antelope Valley south of Palmdale.

Residents were urged to report all suspicious activity at community mailboxes to the Palmdale Station, which can be reached at (661) 272-2400.
